Peng Lim, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Mechanical Technology, Inc. (MTI), its subsidiary MTI Instruments and MTI Micro joined in 2006. Prior to MTI, Peng served as the President and CEO of Tapwave, Inc. where he was behind the development of the Zodiac, a portable electronic multimedia device that won multiple awards including, "Best Gear" by Time Magazine in 2003. Before Tapwave, Peng served as Vice President, Worldwide Product Development for Palm, Inc. where he was responsible for directing the entire life cycle of product development and engineering for Palm handheld products, operating system and application software. While at Palm, he helped capture 75% worldwide handheld operating system and 65% PDA market shares and quadrupled annual revenues to greater than $1.5 billion.
Peng was also part of the executive team that led Palm to a successful IPO in 2000. Before Palm, Peng served as VP of Engineering at Fujitsu Personal Systems where he introduced industry-leading pen-based and wireless computers that captured a 56% market share. Prior to his tenure at Fujitsu, Peng served as Engineering Platform Director at Texas Instruments and as Director of Advanced Portable Engineering at Zenith Data Systems. In both positions he introduced important innovations in state-of-the-art portable computers.
Peng served as a member of the Board of Directors for Novatel Wireless, a leading 3G wireless solutions company from 2001 to 2007 and Board of Advisors for Inventec Appliances, a multibillion dollars ODM company since 2006. He holds a B.S. and a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Windsor (Ontario, Canada) and a Master of Engineering Management from Northwestern University. Peng is also an alumnus of the Stanford Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.
Rick Jones, MTI Instruments’ Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer joined MTI in 1993 and held several positions throughout the organization; including Corporate Staff Accountant, Controller, Director of Finance and Administration, Senior Director of Finance & Operations and Vice-President of Finance & Operations. In his current position, Mr. Jones oversees the financial reporting, internal control compliance and administrative support functions, as well as the treasury, human resources and risk management for the corporation and the production, quality and shipping departments of MTI Instruments.
Prior to his employment with MTI, Mr. Jones served as Controller for both Hobbs Management Corporation and Galesi Management Corporation.
Mr. Jones received a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Siena College.
Gordon Reid, PE, MTI Instruments’ Senior Director of Sales & Marketing, joined MTII in 1995 and has overall responsibility for sales and marketing at MTI Instruments. Gordon is also the Product Line Manager for the Precision Instruments group with responsibility for product definition, quality control, manufacturing and customer service. Previously Gordon worked for over 10 years at a Representative and Distribution firm as a Sales/Applications Engineer of hydroelectric generating equipment, accessories and pump and control systems.
Dave Kennison, MTI Instruments’ Director of Sales - Aviation, joined MTI in 1977. During his tenure at MTI, Dave has assumed a wide variety of senior technical and management positions, encompassing all aspects of machinery and systems analysis.
Presently, Dave heads the MTI Instruments product group that designs and supplies vibration analysis and balancing instrumentation for the aviation and industrial market. In this position, Dave has overall responsibility for all aspects of this business, including product concept and development, sales and marketing, production and customer support. As the success of these systems has spread to over 55 countries, Dave travels extensively, assisting customers and providing sales, support and training throughout the world.
Previously, Dave has worked for General Electric and IBM and was responsible for diagnostic test programs for a broad range of systems and clients. Dave holds several advanced degrees and is a licensed Professional Engineer.
Mike Bonner, MTI Instruments’ Director of Sales – Europe, joined MTII in 2010 and has overall responsibility for MTII sales in Europe. Mike has worked for over 13 years selling, marketing and engineering instrumentation products for the semiconductor industry. Previous to that, Mike worked as a Process and Equipment Engineer for a semiconductor integrated circuit manufacturer.
Peter Opela, MTI Instruments’ Director of Engineering, joined MTI in 2006 and leads the company’s engineering effort through new technological development and advancing the technology and functionality encapsulated within our existing products. Previously, Peter worked for Motorola in their CDMA and GSM cellular handset divisions and for Freescale Semiconductor in their advanced 3G chipset division.
Don Welch, MTI Instruments' Director of New Business Development- Responsible for new product development as well as mergers and acquisitions. Don joined MTI in 1985 as an R&D project development engineer. Previously he was the engineering manager for Tele/ Resources a private business telecommunications firm where he directed PBX product development. Since joining MTI he has held a number of positions in both corporate R&D and within the MTI Instruments division, most recently Director of Engineering. He holds a BSEE from Union College.
