Application Tip

If you are seeing unstable speed readings on some aircraft, especially older ones, try connecting a ground wire between the PBS-4100 Data Acquisition Unit (DAU) and the aircraft frame. In a pinch, use anything you have available – even safety wire. Just connect the wire to the ground stud on the DAU front panel (or wrap it around the hinge) and connect the other end to any bare metal on the aircraft (such as a seat rail). This forms a ground path that allows electrical noise to safely drain away and not get into the data. This situation may occur more often on older aircraft where the aircraft power connections could be degraded.
