Capacitance Sensors Offer Advantages for Thread Inspection Applications

Accumeasure SystemMany manufacturers today, especially suppliers to the automotive industry, insist on 100% inspection of the quality of internal threads on critical parts and components. This reduces the probability of adding future “value” to a part that, in the end, may need to be scrapped. In addition, improperly tapped holes must not reach consumers to avoid warranty concerns, assure customer satisfaction and reduce potential liability. Proper inspection can also pinpoint optimal tool change intervals, saving thousands of dollars per year.

This application note outlines the advantages of MTII’s AccumeasureTM Capacitance System.

Here We Grow Again...Thickness Measurements Simplified!

PV-1000 Earlier this year MTII formally released the PV-1000, a powerful measurement solution that provides not only sensors but also high speed data acquisition, customizable software and built-in intelligence. Originally designed to measure thickness and bow of solar cell wafers, the PV-1000’s flexible platform can easily be configured for a variety of thickness and process monitoring applications. This “system level” approach offers a package that saves money, reduces integration time and eliminates compatibility issues between component providers. Check out the PV-1000 and contact our application engineers with your project requirements.

Application Tip

When measuring the displacement or runout of a curved surface with a capacitance sensor, the radius of the target should be at least 10X greater than the radius of the probe sensing tip. This will ensure maximum linearity and accuracy, minimizing curvature effects. If not practical, an in-place calibration can be performed to establish a linearization correction curve.
